GORHAM, Maine --- The Thomas College club track and field team competed at the Southern Maine Invitational on Saturday, returning to action for the first time in more than a month.
The Terrier men placed eighth with 31 points, while the women did not record a team point.
Daniel Ayanlowo was the only Terrier to capture an individual title, taking the 55-meter dash. He posted the top qualifying time at 6.77 seconds and matched that time in the final, edging Southern Maine's Trey Rogers in a photo finish. Baramlee Janla and Ibrahim Moustapher also made the final finishing fifth (6.93) and eighth (6.98), respectively.
Five other Terriers -- Mikal Simmons, Myles Houston, Tyler Sexton, Carl Berthiaume and Matt George -- competed in the 55 as well, but did not qualify for the final. Simmons was ninth (7.01), Houston 10th (7.05), Sexton 13th (7.16), Berthiaume 16th (7.33) and George 19th (7.57).
Josh Bockus also posted a runner-up finish, taking second in the 400 with a 53.01-second clocking.
Ayanlowo, Janla, Davion Teaheartt and Moustapher also snagged a second-place finish in the 800-meter relay. The quartet finished in 1:37.46, just back of the 1:37.06 time posted by host USM.
The Thomas 1,600 relay of Ayanlowo, George, Moustapher and Bockus took seventh in 3:52.67, while Forrest Labbe was ninth in the 3,000 in 11:06.48.
The Terriers also had four entrants in the 200 and six in the shot put. In the 200, Houston took 14th (24.84), Sexton 16th (24.93) and George 20th (25.82), while Ben Vigue placed 23rd (26.37). In the shot put, Joe Creta placed 14th (10.16 meters; 33-4), Ryan Guevin was 17th (8.79m; 28-10 1/4), Chase Brewer was 18th (8.67m; 28-5 1/2), Lyth Myers was 19th (8.40m; 27-6 3/4), Nick Fortin was 21st (6.27m; 20-7) and Zach Fontana-Howe failed to recorded a legal throw.
For the Thomas women, Kaitlyn Doustou placed 10th in the high jump (1.38m; 4-6 1/4) and also took 32nd in the 200 (31.47) and 34th in the 55 (8.58). Daisy Provost was 37th in the 55 (8.72) and 40th in the 200 (32.67), while Alexandra Cotter was 39th (9.02).
Evelyn Swan took 23rd in the mile in 7:17.77.
In the shot put, Jaimee Gammon took 10th (9.89m; 32-5 1/2), while Katy Donovan was 20th (8.63m; 28-3 3/4) and Mia Navarro-Rivera 30th (6.41m; 21-0 1/2). Maura Gallagher took 15th in the high jump after clearing 1.28 meters (4-2 1/4).
The Terriers conclude their indoor season February 20 at the USA Track & Field New England Championships.
