Track & Field Opens Season at USM Invitational

GORHAM, ME --- Joshua Bockus and David Ayanlowo picked up event wins Saturday as the Thomas College track and field teams opened their 2015-2016 seasons at the USM Invitational.

Bockus won the 400 meters with a school-record time of 52.76 seconds, while Ayanlowo captured the 200 in school-record clocking of 23.42 seconds and finished third in the 55 dash in 6.71 seconds.

Kemauree Williams took second in the 55 in a school-record 6.63 seconds while Daniel Ayanlowo and Baramlee Janla took fifth (6.80) and sixth (6.81), respectively.

Matt George added a sixth-place finish in the 55-meter hurdles with a school-record time of 9.36 seconds. Trystan Mercier and Forrest Labbe also set new school records at the event -- Mercier with his eighth-place time of 2:25.60 in the 800 and Labbe with his 11:44.80 clocking in the two-mile run.

The Ayanlowos teamed up with Williams and Janla to lead Thomas to a runner-up finish in the 800 relay in 1:34.12.

In the field events, Ryan Guevin led a 5-6-7-8-9 finish by the Terriers in the shot put. Guevin's best effort was a toss of 8.58 meters (28-1 3/4). Chase Brewer took sixth (8.36m; 27-5 1/4), Lyth Myers seventh (8.27m; 27-1 3/4), Nick Priest eighth (7.43m; 24-4 1/2) and Nick Fortin ninth (6.74m; 22-1 1/2).

Myles Houston took eighth in the 200 in 25.25 but was unable to clear a height in the high jump. 

Kaitlyn Doustou recorded the top finish for the Terrier women, placing fourth in the high jump after clearing a school-record height of 1.37 meters (4-6). Doustou also placed 14th in the 55 dash (8.36) and 16th in the 200 (31.36).

Julia Smith placed fifth in the triple jump after leaping a school-record 8.64 meters (28-4 1/4) while Maura Gallagher took sixth in the high jump (1.32m; 4-4) and Jaimee Gammon was seventh in the shot put (9.09m; 29-10). Gammon's effort also set a school record. Sarah Fleming was Thomas' top placer on the track, finishing sixth in the 55-meter hurdles in a school-record clocking of 9.95 seconds. Evelyn Swan was 13th in the mile in 6:50.64.

Saturday's meet was the Terriers' only competition of the fall semester. Thomas will return to action on January 9 when it competes in the second USM Invitational.
