WATERVILLE, Maine – The Thomas College softball team swept Colby College in a pair of non-conference game on Wednesday afternoon.
GAME 1: Thomas 5, Colby 2
The Mules scored twice in the bottom of the first to get and early 2-0. Thomas cut the lead in half in the top of the third when Katie Taylor (Lebanon, Maine) scored on a ground out to make it 2-1. The Terriers tied it up in the fifth, with Lauren Guppy (New Sharon, Maine) scoring on a sacrifice fly.
The Terriers finally gained the lead in the seventh when Sydney LeBourveau (Jericho, Vt.) tripled to bring two runs in to score, then came in to score an insurance run as the Terriers took the 5-2 win.
Kelsey Currier (Cumberland, Maine) earned the win in the circle for Thomas, throwing seven innings and allowing one earned run on four hits with three strikeouts.
GAME 2: Thomas 8, Colby 5
The Terriers got the upper hand early, scoring three runs in the first. Bailey Dunphy (North Anson, Maine) started the scoring with an RBI double, then came in to score on a double by LeBourveau. She came in to score on a Katlyn Coulter (Jefferson, N.H.) single to give Thomas a 3-0 lead. Thomas extended their lead in the third when Dunphy scored on a ground out and LeBourveau scored on a Lauren Farina (Schenectady, N.Y.) sacrifice fly.
Colby got three back in the third, cutting the lead to 5-3. An RBI single by LeBourveau in the fourth made it 6-3, then Thomas scored twice in the sixth to go up 8-3. Colby scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to make it 8-5, but Thomas held the Mules off and went on with the victory.
Coulter earned the win, throwing six innings and allowing five runs on eight hits. LeBourveau took the save, pitching a scoreless seventh.
Thomas will visit Northern Vermont University-Johnson for a conference doubleheader on Friday, April 19 at 3:00 PM.
