WATERVILLE, Maine – The Thomas College softball team defeated UMaine-Presque Isle in a North Atlantic Conference doubleheader on Sunday evening.
GAME 1: UMPI 4, Thomas 9
Thomas jumped out early with a run off a Sydney LeBourveau (Jericho, Vt.) single in the bottom of the first. Thomas added three more in the second with a two-run double by Lexi Colpack (Franklin, N.H.) and RBI single by Anna Piirainen (West Paris, Maine). UMPI answered back in the third with four runs to tie it 4-4.
Thomas regained the lead and put the Owls away with a five-run fifth. LeBourveau started the scoring with a two-run double, then came in to score on an error. After Thomas scored again on a fielder's choice, Colpack capped the inning with an RBI single to make it a 9-4 final score.
Katlyn Coulter (Jefferson, N.H.) earned the complete-game win, allowing four runs on five hits in seven innings of work.
GAME 2: UMPI 0, Thomas 8
Bailey Dunphy (North Anson, Maine) got it started for Thomas in the first, knocking in a run with a double to left center. She was brought in by a LeBourveau single that made it 2-0 after one. LeBourveau drove in her fifth run of the day in the third, bringing Dunphy in to score again. The Terriers took the run rule win with five runs in the fifth, including a two-run single by Lauren Farina (Schenectady, N.Y.) to earn the 8-0 victory.
Kelsey Currier (Cumberland, Maine) threw a no-hitter in the circle for Thomas, striking out five and walking one in five innings of work.
Thomas will travel to Rivier for a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday, April 23 at 5:00 PM.
