CLERMONT, Fla. – The Thomas College softball team fell to No. 22 UW-Eau Claire and Lewis & Clark in their final games of their Florida trip.
GAME 1: Thomas 2, No. 22 UW-Eau Claire 3
The Terriers threatened early, loading the bases in the top of the first but were unable to bring a run in. The Blugolds got on the board first in the bottom of the third with two runs, before Lauren Guppy (New Sharon, Maine) scored in the fourth to make it 2-1. The Terriers evened it up in the fifth with a Kayla Bess (Madison, Maine) RBI triple that tied the score 2-2. Eau Claire got their winning run in the bottom of the sixth to push them to the 3-2 win.
Katlyn Coulter (Jefferson, N.H) took the loss, allowing one earned run on five hits with four strikeouts.
GAME 2: Thomas 3, Lewis & Clark 4
Thomas took the early advantage in the first, with Kelsey Currier (Cumberland, Maine) scoring on a groundout. She came in to score on another ground out to make it 2-0 in the top of the third. The Pioneers scored twice in the bottom of the third to even it up at 2-2. Thomas retook the lead with an inside the park homerun by Bess with a shot down the left field line to make it 3-2 in the fourth. Lewis & Clark evened it back up in the fifth, then scored the game-winner on a walk off in the seventh to take the 4-3 win.
Currier took the loss, allowing two runs on five hits in three innings of relief.
Thomas will return to Maine to host UNE on Tuesday, April 2 in a doubleheader at 3:00 PM.
