KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Thomas College softball team defeated Manchester and Middlebury on Saturday to extend their winning streak to five games.
GAME 1: Thomas 4, Manchester 3
Thomas got a 1-0 lead in the first when Lexi Colpack (Franklin, N.H.) scored on a ground ball by Bailey Dunphy (North Anson, Maine). The Spartans took the lead with three runs in the second to go up 3-1.
Sydney LeBourveau tied it up for Thomas in the top of the third, singling to left field and bringing in two runs to score to make it 3-3. The game stayed even until the top of the seventh, when LeBourveau hit and RBI single up the middle that brought Dunphy in to score the go-ahead run, as Thomas went on to the 4-3 victory.
Breanna Whitmarsh (Puyallup, Wash.) earned the win after relieving LeBourveau in the fourth, pitching four scoreless innings and allowing one hit.
GAME 2: Middlebury 1, Thomas 3
The Panther got the early lead, scoring on a double in the first to go up 1-0. The score held until the bottom of the fifth, Katie Taylor (Lebanon, Maine) hit a bases loaded RBI single that brought in two runs to score. Lauren Guppy (New Sharon, Maine) scored the insurance run on a ground out to make it 3-1. Katlyn Coulter (Jefferson, N.H.) got out of trouble in the seventh, thanks in part to a spectacular sliding catch by Taylor that saved a run, as Thomas went on to the 3-1 victory.
Coulter threw the complete game, allowing one run while scattering nine hits to get the win.
Thomas will play a doubleheader with St. Olaf and New Rochelle on Monday, March 25 at Hancock Park in Clermont, Fla.
