CLERMONT, Fla. – The Thomas College softball team defeated Lawrence and Kalamazoo on their third day of their Florida trip on Thursday afternoon.
GAME 1: Lawrence 2, Thomas 7
Thomas put one on the board in the second when Katie Taylor (Lebanon, Maine) scored on a groundout. The Terriers opened it up in the second, scoring five runs to go up 6-1. Taylor started the scoring with a bases-loaded RBI single that scored one. Anna Piirainen (West Paris, Maine) scored on a sacrifice fly that left runners on second and third for Bailey Dunphy (North Anson, Maine), who drove both runs in with a triple to left center. She scored a batter later when Sydney LeBourveau (Jericho, Vt.) hit a triple of her own to cap the rally.
After Lawrence got one back in the third, Thomas made it a 7-2 game when Dunphy scored on an error in the fourth.
Kelsey Currier (Cumberland, Maine) earned her first collegiate win, working four innings and allowing one earned run on six hits. LeBourveau got the save after three one-hit scoreless innings.
GAME 2: Thomas 7, Kalamazoo 1
After a scoreless first two innings, the Terriers got on the board with a four-run third. Lexi Colpack (Franklin, N.H.) started the inning with an RBI single to left, followed by Dunphy doubling in her third RBI of the day. Kasey Champney (Holland, Vt.) singled Dunphy in, then Currier stole home to give Thomas the 4-0.
The Hornets scored one in the fourth to make it 4-1. The Terriers got it back in the top of the fifth when Dunphy hit her second triple of the game and came in to score on a groundout. Kayla Bess (Madison, Maine) hit a two-RBI triple to left center to make it a 7-1 final.
Katlyn Coulter (Jefferson, N.H.) pitched a complete game, allowing one run on four hits with three strikeouts.
Thomas will play a pair of games with Manchester and Middlebury on Saturday, March 23 at 9:30 AM.
