Terriers Blank Hornets in Twinbill, 8-0 & 14-0

WATERVILLE, Maine – The Thomas College softball team shutout Lyndon State College, 8-0 and 14-0, in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) doubleheader on Sunday afternoon.

The Terriers improve to 18-13 (8-2 NAC) while the Hornets remain winless at 0-16 (0-6 NAC).

Game 1: Thomas 8, Lyndon 0 – 5 innings

The Terriers plated four runs in the opening frame to take an early lead.  With the bases loaded, Lauren Farina (Schenectady, N.Y) smacked a double to left center.  MacKenzie Oberholzer (Greencastle, Pa.) followed with an RBI single to make it 4-0.

Thomas continued to extend the lead in the second as they capitalized on error to score four unearned runs.  Lexi Colpack (Franklin, N.H.) came in on a wild pitch while Julia Nadeau (Randolph, Maine) knocked a bases clearing double to finish the scoring at 8-0.

For the Hornets, Amber Roberts and Madeline DeGroot each recorded a single while Cassie Black hit a double in the fifth inning.

Sydney LeBourveau (Jericho, Vt.) threw all five innings in the win for Thomas, scattering three hits and no runs.  Kiya DeWitt shouldered the loss in four innings, five hits, and eight runs (four earned).

Game 2: Thomas 14, Lyndon 0 – 5 innings

The Thomas offense brought around four runs in the first inning including an inside the park homerun from Colpack and RBI singles by Kayla Bess (Madison, Maine) and Chiara Stone (Jensen Beach, Fla.).  The Terriers added three more in the second led by Katlyn Coulter's (Jefferson, N.H.) double and a single by Oberholzer.

The Terriers continued to pull away with four more runs in the third and three in the fourth to end at 14-0.  Colpack, Coulter, Bess, and Stone all finished 2-for-3 in the win, combining for 7 RBI.  Hannah Choiniere and Charlotte Winslow each recorded a hit for Lyndon.

Coulter took the win in the circle for Thomas in three innings, giving up one hit.  Breanna Whitmarsh (Puyallup, Wash.) and Haley Littlefield (Mt. Desert Island, Maine) held the Hornets off the board in relief.

Roberts was given the loss in four innings, scattering 15 hits and 14 runs (11 earned).

The Terriers will host Colby College at home on Tuesday, April 24 at 4:00 p.m.
