HENNIKER, N.H. – The Thomas College softball team split a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) doubleheader with New England College on Saturday, falling 2-1 in game one and winning game two, 13-0.
The Terriers sit at 9-11 (1-1 NAC) after the twinbill while the Pilgrims move to 7-15 (1-1 NAC).
Game 1: NEC 2, Thomas 1
The Pilgrims took an early 2-0 lead with unearned runs in the first and third inning on a pair of Thomas errors. The Terriers could only muster one run in the top of the fourth as Lexi Colpack (Franklin, N.H.) walked to score Kayla Bess (Madison, Maine).
Taylor Barbour kept the Thomas bats silent most of the contest in a complete game win, allowing six hits and one run while striking out five.
Sydney LeBourveau (Jericho, Vt.) threw six innings in the effort for Thomas, allowing four hits and two unearned runs.
Game 2: Thomas 13, NEC 0 – 5 innings
The Thomas offense exploded for nine runs on eight hits in the top of the second led by RBI singles from Katie Taylor (Lebanon, Maine), Anna Piirainen (West Paris, Maine), LeBourveau, Lauren Farina (Schenectady, N.Y.), Julia Nadeau (Randolph, Maine), and Chiara Stone (Jensen Beach, Fla.).
The Terriers continued to pour it on in the third as they pushed across four more runs on six hits. Piirainen got the inning going with a RBI single to plate Colpack. LeBourveau followed with a double to right center to score another run. Katlyn Coulter (Jefferson, N.H.) and Farina hit back-to-back singles to finish the scoring at 13-0.
Coulter earned her sixth win on the mound in 3.1 innings, giving up three hits while striking out three. After taking the win in game one, Barbour was given the loss in 1.1 innings, allowing six hits and seven runs. Emily Farone threw the final 3.2 innings, scattering 11 hits and six runs (four earned).
The Terriers will travel across town on Tuesday as they take on Colby College at 4:30 p.m.
