Taylor, Morse Named NAC Softball Players of the Week

WHITINGHAM, Vt. --- Thomas College has swept the North Atlantic Conference Softball Player of the Week honors for the week ending April 24, 2016, the conference office announced Monday. Freshman Katie Taylor (Lebanon, Maine / Noble) was named both NAC Player and Rookie of the Week, while junior Sonja Morse (South China, Maine / Cony) was named Pitcher of the Week.

Player & Rookie of the Week - Katie Taylor, Thomas (Fr., OF/UT - Lebanon, Maine)
Taylor broke out offensively against Lyndon and Johnson State last weekend, as her team went 4-0. She hit .615 with eight hits, two doubles, a triple, six RBI, four runs scored and a pair of stolen bases. The rookie hit safely on the week and had three multi-hit games, while contributing at least one run in all four games.

She had a two-run double in the first game of the Lyndon doubleheader and the final game of the Johnson twinbill. In game one against the Badgers, Taylor was 3-for-3 with a triple, two RBI, one scored run, and one stolen base. Impressively, she entered the weekend hitting just .235 (4-of-17) and raised her batting average to an even .400 (12-of-30).

Pitcher of the Week - Sonja Morse, Thomas (Jr., P/UT - South China, Maine)
Morse went 4-0 this week as Thomas posted sweeps of Lyndon and Johnson State. She threw the minimum three innings in a 5-inning win over Lyndon to open the weekend, allowing just two hits while striking out four. Morse also started the second game of the Saturday's twinbill against the Hornets, as she gave up only two hits, struck out five, and walked two in four innings.

On Sunday against Johnson State, she pitched complete games in both ends of the doubleheader. She struck out eight while allowing just four hits in a 12-1, five-inning win in game one. She then sat down 12 on strikes, while walking one and allowing two hits in a 5-1 win in game two. The junior was also 3-for-8 at the plate with one double, two RBI, five runs scored, two stolen bases and three walks.
