LEWISTON, ME - The Thomas softball lost a pair of non-conference games to Bates College on Tuesday afternoon, getting edged 1-0 in the first game before a 13-0 defeat in five innings in game two.
The Terriers drop to 12-21 overall on the season, while the Bobcats improve to 14-20.
Both teams managed just two hits each, but a solo homerun by Karen Lockhart in the bottom of the first propelled Bates to a 1-0 win over Thomas in game one of doubleheader.
Sonja Morse had a quality start on the mound, yielding just two hits and one earned run while striking out nine in six innings of work. Brenna Callahan of Bates also went the complete game, giving up just two hits and zero runs along with eight strikeouts.
Alyssa Eugley reached in the first inning after drawing a walk and stealing second, but was stranded. The Terriers had another opportunity in the fourth inning, as Korrie Laren and Jordan Agger-Barnes picked up back to back hits. They were left stranded after a fielder's choice and a strikeout got the Bobcats out of the inning.
Kelsey Freedman allowed just one hit and struck out four as Bates took down Thomas 13-0 in five innings in the second game to complete the doubleheader sweep.
The Terriers struggled to reach base, as just two runners reach all game and none in scoring position. Alyssa Eugley collected the lone Terrier hit on a single in the fourth, while Taylor M. Johnson drew a walk to reach in the second.
Faith Robinson took the loss on the mound for Thomas, going three innings with two strikeouts.
The Terriers will close out the regular season tomorrow, April 29 as they travel to Johnson State to take on the Badgers in a conference doubleheader. First game is scheduled to start at 3:00 PM.
