FARMINGTON, ME- Thomas (4-19, 3-7 NAC) was able to take one game from University of Maine at Farmington (5-6, 3-5 NAC) in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) twinbill on Thursday evening. UMF took the first game 7-5, while Thomas rallied to take a win out of the darkness-shortened second game, 7-1.
Soule's game-winning RBI was part of a three-run sixth inning for UMaine-Farmington that broke a 4-4 tie and lifted the Beavers to the win.
Pinch hitter Hannah Lust (Bangor, Maine/Bangor) belted a home run to left center to break a 4-4 tie, and Amy Jones (Augusta, Maine/Cony) followed with a double into straightaway center. Two batters later, Soule dropped a single into left center to score Jones, giving Farmington a 6-4 lead. Kaitlyn Bartlett (Chesterville, Maine/Mt. Blue) doubled off the fence in left field later in the frame, scoring Soule and extending the UMF lead to 7-4.
Thomas got one of those runs back in the top of the seventh when Alyssa Eugley (Sidney, Maine/Messalonskee) singled home Phyllicia Jordan (Waltham, Maine/Ellsworth) with a two-out base hit into center field. With two runners aboard for the Terriers, Soule got Thomas pinch hitter Sara Moynihan (Enfield, Conn./Enrico Fermi) to ground out to third base, securing the win.
Jones, Soule, Bartlett, and freshman Haley Berry (Westbrook, Maine/Westbrook) each had two hits for UMaine-Farmington, with Soule crossing the plate twice. Seven different players were credited with runs batted in for the Beavers.
Soule allowed five runs, four earned, on 10 hits and four walks to go with her eight strikeouts, and improved to 4-1 with the complete game win. Thomas starter Faith Robinson (Auburn, N.H./Pinkerton Academy) surrendered seven runs on 12 hits and one walk, and charted just one strikeout in the loss.
Thomas scored single runs in the first, third, and fourth innings to take a 3-1 lead, including a leadoff home run to center field by Eugley in the game's first at bat.
The Terriers blew the game wide open with a three-run uprising in the fifth inning on two hits and a Farmington error. Sam Moore (Etna, Maine/Nokomis Regional) stroked a one-out double down the left field line to score Ashlee Quirrion (Jay, Maine/Spruce Mountain), and Thibodeau drew a bases loaded walk for Thomas' final run of the frame.
Thomas tacked on another run in the sixth on Moore's hard single right back at Farmington reliever Bartlett, scoring Quirrion to make the score 7-1 for the Terriers.
Farmington was unable to get any runs across in the bottom of the sixth, and the game was called due to darkness after three Thomas batters came to the plate in the seventh.
Robinson pitched the complete game win for the Terriers, scattering 10 UMaine-Farmington hits and issuing one walk with one strikeout. Farmington starter Emma Vaillancourt (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) lasted five innings in the circle, allowing six runs, three of which were earned, on six hits and four walks with one strikeout.
Soule and Withee each had two hits for the Beavers. Moore paced the Terriers with a 2-for-4 effort at the plate with two RBI, while Quirrion was 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Ciomei also drove in two runs.
