Waterville, Maine—The Thomas College softball team picked up a North Atlantic Conference quarterfinal final win, Wednesday afternoon, as they defeated the Mariners of Maine Maritime 6-3. With the win the Terriers advance to play in the Semi-Final game of the conference playoffs. Samantha Moore was the top player on the afternoon for the Terriers going three for four and scoring two runs. Autumn Jones led the Mariners going a perfect three for three on the afternoon.
The Mariners came out swinging the bats and scoring the first run on an RBI single from Sabrina Keach giving them the 1-0 lead. The Terriers responded in a big way scoring four runs in the bottom of that inning with RBIs from Alei Collier, Kelsey Crowe, Lauren Hachey, and Ali Kriegel. The score remained 4-1 until both teams added one more run in the fifth inning. Leah Jackson had a sacrifice fly for the Mariners scoring Kelsie Hilton in the inning while Alyssa Eugley scored on a wild pitch for the Terriers. The Mariners tacked on one more run in the top of the seventh inning, but were not able to complete the comeback and fell short to the Terriers, 6-3.
Sara Pavento got the win for the Terriers throwing a complete game and allowing only one earned run while Abby Yeo shoulders the loss for the Mariners.
The Terriers will travel to Husson to take on the Eagles in a Semi-Final game Friday afternoon at 10:00 a.m.
