Waterville, Maine—The Thomas College softball team dropped a pair of non-conference home games to the Bobcats of Bates College Sunday afternoon by the scores of 13-4 and 10-1.
The Bobcats (16-9) got off to a quick start when Karen Ullmann scored on a double by Lauren Dobish. Bates would score again in the inning when Leah Maciejewski singled up the middle scoring Dobish. Thomas (12-23-1, 9-6-1 NAC) countered in the bottom half of the inning when Samantha Moore grounded out to second scoring Alyssa Eugley cutting the lead to one at 2-1. Bates would tack on seven runs in the top of the second on seven hits and two errors both by Terrier second baseman Lauren Hachey. The Terriers added a run in the bottom of the third when Eugley tripled and scored on an overthrow. Bates scored two more in the top of the fifth when Ullmann doubled scoring Courtney Talcott. Ullmann eventually came around to score on an error by Kelsey Crowe pushing the lead to 11-2. Eugley would get two runs back for the Terriers in the bottom of the inning with a homer to left. The Terriers would not score again and Bates added two more runs in the top of the seventh to end game one.
Sara Pavento takes the loss for the Terriers picking up six strikeouts. Kristen Finn gets the win for the Bobcats only allowing one run and striking out one.
The Bobcats came out strong once again scoring seven runs in the first inning on hits from Ullmann, McManus, Dobish, Leah King, and Mary Lewis. Pitching was the story for the Bobcats as Finn only gave up one run in five innings of work on a fielder's choice from Molly Woodward plating Ali Kriegel.
Crowe shoulders the loss in the second game while picking up six strikeouts. Finn recorded her second win of the day going all five innings and striking out four.
The Terriers next opponent in the North Atlantic Conference playoffs is to be determined.
