Waterville, Maine – The Thomas College softball team picked up a set of North Atlantic Conference wins Tuesday afternoon downing the Hornets of Lyndon College 5-1 in in game one and outlasted the Hornets 9-4 in the night cap.
With the wins the Terriers improve to 12-19-1 (9-6-1 NAC) on the year while the Hornets slip to 9-21 (1-11 NAC).
The Hornets got on the board first in game one in the top of the second when Katie Davis sent a single up the middle bringing in the first run of the game and giving the visitors a 1-0 lead. The Terriers wasted no time answering in the bottom of the second as a two run RBI hit by first year Alei Collier gave the home team a 2-0 lead.
The Terriers add three more runs in the bottom of the sixth sealing the win, after junior Kelsey Crowe hit a three run homerun sealing the Terriers win.
Senior Sara Pavento picks up the win striking out three batters in seven innings at the mound, while Davis shoulders the loss for the Hornets.
In the nightcap the Terriers grabbed a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the third after a five RBI inning off of three Terriers hits. The Terriers added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth pushing their lead to 4-0.
The Hornets bats woke up in the top of the sixth as the Hornets put up a four run inning to get with in one of the home team. Lyndon's Taylor Young got things rolling with a one run RBI followed by Hannah White's three run RBI double to make it a one run game. The Terriers answered in the bottom of the sixth with three runs making it a 9-4 game.
The Terriers defense rose to the occasion keeping the Hornets at bay in the bottom of the seventh inning sealing up the Terriers 12th win of the season.
Kelsey Crowe grabs the win for the Terriers in a complete game performance, while Meghan Gadapee shoulders the loss for the Hornets.
The Terriers will step outside on NAC play on Sunday with a doubleheader with Bates on the campus of Thomas College.
