Poultney, VT – Thomas College senior Ali Kriegel went 6-for-7 and knocked in five runs leading Thomas College to a doubleheader sweep of Green Mountain College in a North Atlantic Conference women's softball matchup.
After closing out the first game 12-3 in six innings, Thomas took an early lead and never looked back earning an 11-6 victory in the nightcap. The Eagles fall to 1-24 (0-11 NAC) on the season while the Terriers improve to 10-20-1 (7-6-1 NAC).
Green Mountain jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a Chelsea Paul single, but a two RBI base hit off the bat of Sara Pavento in the second put the Terriers ahead for good. Kriegel knocked in a pair of runs with a double in the third, and plated one in a six-run sixth to help finish off the Eagles.
Thomas opened the second game the same way it finished the first, plating six runs in the first with Kriegel driving one in, and scoring. Green Mountain scored twice in the bottom of the first behind a solo homerun from Paul, but were unable to close the gap.
Pavento earned both Thomas wins giving up five earned runs and striking out 10 in 13 innings of work, improving her record to 6-7 on the year.
Thomas travels to Lyndon State College on Tuesday, the 17th at 3:30pm for a pair of NAC contests.
