Bangor, ME – After watching Husson University advance over the Thomas College Terriers (19-15, 12-2 NAC) in the 9th inning of their game that resumed this morning after being suspended last night due to darkness, the University of Maine at Farmington came up and beat the Terriers as well, winning 8-6 and advancing to the NAC Championship.
Farmington scored 7 runs in the first three innings, including a 5 run second inning where they batted around to help propel the Beavers to victory. The UMF offense was led by Kaitlyn Bartlett who went 2-2 with a walk, an RBI and two runs scored out of the cleanup spot. Bartlett started the game as the designated player, and then came in to pitch for the Beavers going 3.2 innings, allowing just one run on 5 hits with 2 K's to earn the save as well. Shortstop Samantha Morency also had a good game at the plate going 2-4 with an RBI and a run scored, as well as adding 4 assists and 2 put outs defensively.
The Terriers tried to mount a comeback after their starter was chased from the game in the second inning by adding a three run third, but it wasn't enough to stop the potent Farmington offense. Catcher Samantha Moore went 2-4 at the plate with an RBI and a pair of runs scored and Kelsey Crowe went 3-4 with a run scored as the #3 hitter, and also came in to pitch a scoreless 7th, striking out one of the four batters she faced.
The Beavers advanced to the championship game this afternoon, and will need to beat Husson twice in order to take the NAC title. The game begins at approximately 4:00 pm.
