Terriers Hold Off Late Rally to Beat MMA

Bangor, ME – The Terriers of Thomas College held off a late rally by Maine Maritime Academy to pick up the 4-3 victory and advance out of the first round of the NAC Playoffs at Husson University's O'Keefe field. Thomas put up 3 runs in the bottom of the third, and only had to add one more throughout the rest of the game to secure the win.

It was a scary moment for the Terriers in the top of the third when leadoff hitter and first year shortstop Lindsay Fry was injured in a put out at third base. Fry had started off that first inning rally with a single, and later came around to score their first run. Fry's replacement Samantha Robison came through in the clutch scoring one run on a base hit, and recorded 2 put outs with 5 assists defensively.

Maine Maritime scored runs in each of the first two innings, and one more in the top of the 6th, but it was not enough to earn the victory over Thomas. MMA out-hit the Terriers 10-8, led at the plate by their shortstop Brittany Hunt (Hickory, NC) who went 2-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Megan Russeland Leah Jackson each went 1-3 with an RBI in support for Maine Maritime.

The Mariners will turn around and play the University of Maine at Farmington in an elimination game set to start at 2:40 pm, while Thomas will play Husson at around 6:00 pm.
