WATERVILLE, Maine --- The Colby College softball team defeated Thomas College (18-13, 12-2 NAC) 10-1 on Wednesday in a game shortened to six innings because of the eight-run rule at Colby. The Mules pitcher Lauren Becker was able to shut down the Terriers offense by pitching complete game and only allowing four hits.
The Mules scored two runs in the first inning on RBI singles by Barbara Santos and Brianne Wheeler. Colby made 4-0 after Peterson drove in a pair of runs in the second inning.
Thomas cut the lead to 4-1 in the bottom of the fourth when Ali Kriegel had a two-out single and later scored on an RBI single by Kristen Masessa.
The Mules answered back with two runs in the fifth inning on an RBI double by Alyssa Lepore. The Mules used a two-run single by Lindsay Peterson and scored two other runs on wild pitches in the sixth inning.
Becker allowed just the one earned run, struck out three, and walked four to earn the win.
The Terriers top hitter was Kriegel who went 1-2 with a run scored.
Thomas will be back in action tomorrow, April 29 as the Terriers host Maine Maritime at Husson University in the opening round of the North Atlantic Conference playoffs.
