Waterville, Maine -- The Thomas College Terriers (13-9, 7-1 NAC) faced the Castleton Spartans (9-17, 3-5 NAC) in a double header today. The Terriers won game one 5-4 in eight innings and won game two 7-0.
In the first game, Castleton jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first behind an RBI single by Sarah Flore In the top of the third Flore hit another RBI single to give the Spartans a 2-0 lead. The Terriers would tie it up in the bottom half of the third when Mallorie Blakney hit a triple to centerfield scoring Lindsay Fry and Alexandra Kriegel.
The Spartans tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the sixth, when Mercedes Maltbie scored on an error.
The game went into extra innings and Castleton scored in the top of the eighth on Siobhan Whittemore RBI single. In the bottom of the eighth the Terriers' Kriegel hit a game winning single scoring Kristen Loubier and Eells to give them the 5-4 win.
The Terriers' Sara Pavento pitched the complete game allowing eight hits, two earned runs while striking out one. Blakney went 2-4 from the plate with a RBI triple and a stolen base. Kriegel went 2-3 with a RBI and a walk.
The Spartans Taylor Lively pitched seven innings allowing 10 hits, four earned runs while striking out four in the loss. Flore went 2-3 from the plate with two RBIs.
In the second game, the Terriers got a strong pitching performance from Jordan Kennedy who pitched a complete game shutout allowing three hits and striking out 10.
The Terriers scored first in the bottom of the first with RBI singles by Samantha Moore and Sarah Estes. They went on the score two more in the bottom of the second when Moore doubled to centerfield scoring Blakney and Fry.
In the bottom of the fourth the Terriers scored three more runs when Blakney tripled to right field scoring Fry then Moore tripled to left field scoring Blakney. While Kelsey Crowe was at bat, Moore scored on a wild pitch by Emily Sweeney. Sweeney pitched six innings allowing 10 hits and seven runs while striking out two in the loss.
The Terriers' Moore went 3-3 with four RBIs and scoring two runs while Blakney went 2-4 with an RBI and scored twice.
Thomas will be back in action tomorrow, April 16, as the Terriers host Green Mountain. The game scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m.
