Brunswick, Maine -- The Thomas College softball team (11-9, 5-1 NAC) faced Bowdoin College (13-13, 4-2 NESCAC) in a double header yesterday. The Terriers loss game one 6-2 and loss game two 5-3 after winning four straight coming into yesterday's games.
In the first game, Thomas jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first behind an RBI double by Kelsey Crowe and an RBI single by Sarah Estes. The Polar Bears would answer back in the bottom half of the inning scoring three runs. Hanna Wurgaft hit a two RBI triple and then she would score during the next at bat.
Bowdoin would end up scoring the last of their runs in the fifth. An error by the Terriers scored the first run in the inning then a two run homerun by Gen Barlow put the Polar Bears on top 6-2 for the victory. Sara Pavento was tagged with the loss for the Terriers as she allowed eight hits, five earned runs, while striking out five batters in six innings. Kaity Sansone got the win for Bowdoin pitching six innings allowing six hits and striking out three batters.
Game two featured Jordan Kennedy pitching for Thomas and Tricia Thibodeau for Bowdoin. The Terriers took the lead in the top of the fifth when an RBI single by Crowe scored Mallorie Blakney on the play. Thomas would score another run in the next inning to increase the lead to 3-1 after a sacrifice RBI by Cassie Manning scored Kristin Masessa from third base.
Kennedy would find herself in a jam in the bottom of the sixth as she allowed four runs and Bowdoin took the lead back at 5-3. Kennedy allowed eight hits and five runs while striking out five batters in six innings. For the Polar Bears, Thibodeau pitched six innings allowing five hits, an earned run, while striking out four batters. Melissa DellaTorre came on to close the game in a one-two-three seventh.
Thomas will be back in action tomorrow, April 14, as the Terriers host Colby. The game scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
