Men's and Women's Cross Country Team Season Review
Waterville, Maine –The 2011 season was filled with many bright spots, the brightest being the women's cross country team win at the Maine Maritime Invitational giving the Terriers their first win in program history. The Terriers had three finish in the top five senior Sarah Estes posted a third place finish with a time of 24:30, junior Chelsie Morris finished fourth with a time of 25:36 and first year Jerrica Stackpole finished fifth with a time of 26:03 helping the Terriers to seal the victory.
The women's season ended at the North Atlantic Conference championship with an eighth place finish out of ten teams. The men's season ended with an eighth place finish out of eight qualifying teams.
The women's best performance was from Estes with a finishing time of a 24:28 at the Maine State Championship meet. Estes also finished the season with the averaging the best finish with a time of a 25:32 average. This season also boasted the largest team Coach Kerry Smart had since she has been at Thomas College, along with Estes, Morris and Stackpole, her team consisted of junior Rachel Reed, first year Amada Dion, and first year Samantha Felbaum.
For the men's team this year they had the return of junior David Tirabassi who posted the best men's performance of the year with a time of 31:09 at the Unity Invitational. Although Tirabassi had the best performance Freshman William Janakis was the Terriers most consistent runner, finishing with the best average finishing time of the season with 32:48. The men's best performances as a team were at the Maine State Championship and the Maine Maritime Invitational being the best their two best finishes of the year for the team.
