Men's Tennis Opens Spring Trip with Tough Loss to Webster, 5-4

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – The Thomas College men's tennis team opened their 2018 spring trip with a tough 5-4 loss to Webster University on Saturday morning at the Evian Tennis Center.

The Terriers fall to 0-1 in their season opener while the Gorloks improve to 1-1 in their second matchup.

Thomas found themselves up 2-1 through doubles play as they earned victories on the number one and three line.  Ryan Chasse (Fort Kent, Maine) and Zachary Disch (Waterville, Maine) took an 8-2 victory while Jared Waterhouse (Dayton, Maine) and Christo Naranja (Fort Kent, Maine) cruised to an 8-0 win.  In number two doubles, Ross Munn (Brunswick, Maine) and Kaleb Payson (Lamoine, Maine) dropped a tie breaker 9-8 (7-5).

The Gorloks rallied back to win four of six singles matchups to steal the 5-4 victory.  Munn earned a victory on the No. 2 flight at 6-0, 7-6 (7-2) while Disch followed with a 6-2, 6-3 win in threes.  Chasse came up short with a tie breaking loss in the No. 1 flight 3-6, 7-5, 7-10.

The Terriers will look to get in the win column on Wednesday, March 14 as they take on Shepherd University in Hilton Head Island.
