GORHAM, Maine – The Thomas College men's tennis team extended their winning streak to seven matches as they defeated the University of Southern Maine, 6-3, on Thursday afternoon.
Southern Maine remains winless on the season at 0-5 while Thomas improves to 8-4 overall.
Thomas led USM 2-1 after the doubles points played out and then took four of the six singles points en route to the win. Southern Maine senior Kyle Curley and junior Samuel Holland each were double-winners for the Huskies. Curley and Holland combined for an 8-3 win at first doubles over the Thomas tandem of Zachary Disch (Waterville, Maine) and freshman Ryan Chasse (Fort Kent, Maine). On the two line, Jared Waterhouse (Dayton, Maine) and Kaleb Payson (Lamoine, Maine) defeated Andy MacEachern and Chase Orava 8-4 while Ross Munn (Brunswick, Maine) and Mark Amato (Manchester, Conn.) topped Kyle Morin and Owen Yao 8-0 in threes.
Curley defeated Chasse 6-2, 6-4 at first singles, and Holland battled to a 6-2, 6-2 victory in the second position over Munn. Disch defeated MacEachern 6-3, 6-2 at third singles to lead a sweep of the three through sixth position in singles action. Waterhouse went on to win 6-0, 6-3 over Orava while Payson earned a win against Morin 6-4, 3-6, 6-4. Amato rounded out singles play with his win on the No. 6 line over Yao 6-0, 6-0.
The Terriers will return to North Atlantic Conference play on Saturday, April 15 as they travel to Castleton.
