GORHAM, ME – The University of Southern Maine Huskies' men's tennis team defeated the Thomas College Terriers 8-1 Tuesday afternoon at the Costello Sports Complex.
Tyler Adams' sixth consecutive singles victory coincided with the Huskies' sixth consecutive win to improve their record to 6-3 on the season. It is the second 8-1 victory over Thomas College this season for the Huskies. Thomas College dips below .500 with the loss to stand at 3-4. Thomas entered the match on a two-match win streak.
Adams downed Terrier sophomore Tyler Small at first singles to improve to 7-2 on the season from the top singles flight. The Huskies won five out of the six singles points in the win. Playing up in the lineup, Husky sophomore Eric Barry-Sandelin earned a win in his first singles action of the season downing Thomas junior Caleb Mora 6-3, 6-3 at fourth singles. Huskies' junior Romain Sauvageot picked up his third singles victory of the season defeating TC freshman Federico Trujillo 6-2, 6-2. Thomas' lone point came in a 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 win at second singles as junior Eric Morin defeated Husky junior Scott Gagne.
Southern Maine led the match 3-0 after the doubles matches played. Adams and Gagne downed Small and Morin at first doubles 8-2 in the closest doubles match of the day. Sophomore Max Wilkey and freshman Kyle Curley earned an 8-0 win over the Terrier tandem of junior Malcolm Marshall and Mora at second doubles, while junior Thaddeus St. John and senior Christopher G. Ross also earned an 8-0 win at third doubles defeating junior Jonte Roussel and Trujillo.
Thomas College hosts Castleton State on Saturday (1:00 p.m.) in a North Atlantic Conference match.
