RUTLAND, VT– Thomas' success in the doubles matches proved the difference maker as the Terriers scored a 5-4 victory over Green Mountain College on Friday evening at Rutland's Vermont Sport and Fitness Club.
Green Mountain (0-2) opened the match with an 8-2 win in the doubles first flight as the freshman pair of Connor Braden (Lafayette, Ind.) and Nate Berner-Tobin (Stratham, N.H.) defeated the Thomas duo of Tyler Small (Surry, Maine) and Dakota Duplissie (Hampden, Maine). However, it was the victory in the second and third flight doubles matches that clinched the match win for Thomas as the teams would eventually split the singles flights at 3-3.
Thomas' Eric Morin (Lewiston, Maine) and Gershom Renee (Hartford, Conn.) ousted the Eagles' pairing of Chris Donovan (Bedford, Mass.) and Sam Snyder (Old Greenwich, Conn.) 8-3, while Terriers' Joseph Greco (Greene, Maine) and Caleb Mora (Surry, Maine) defeated Andrew O'Neill (Philmont, N.Y.) and Chris Gaskin (Atlanta, Ga.) 8-1.
Green Mountain received singles victories in the first, third and fifth flights as Braden, Donovan and O'Neill all captured wins against their opponents.
Thomas (3-2) emerged with wins in the second, fourth and sixth flights when Small, Greco, and Duplissie downed their Eagle opponents.
Green Mountain and Thomas will both be back in action again tomorrow as GMC heads to Colby-Sawyer to face the Chargers at 1 p.m., while the Terriers take on Castleton at noon.
