WATERVILLE, Maine – The Thomas College men's soccer team defeated SUNY Delhi 3-1 to stay undefeated in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play on Saturday afternoon at Smith Field.
MacQuille Walker (Hamilton Parish, Bermuda) put Thomas on the board in the 22nd minute when he was slid a pass by Zenawi Bowen (St George's, Bermuda) at the top of the box and fired a rocked of a shot to the top-right corner and in for the 1-0 lead. The Terriers extended their lead five minutes later when a Drew Parsons (Farmington, Maine) cross from the right wing found the head of Eric LaBrie (Yarmouth, Maine), who forced it into the goal from ten yards out for the 2-0 lead. The Broncos cut the lead back to one in the 30th minute when a Delhi corner kick rattled around in front and found the foot of Jose Leiva, who snuck it in on the short side to make it 2-1 at the half.
The Terriers picked up and insurance goal in the 76th minute when Avian Girard (Castries, St. Lucia) carried it to the right side end line and sent a cross to the feet of Kyle Patterson (Spanish Town, Jamaica), who fired a quick shot to make it a 3-1 final.
John Villanueva (Gray, Maine) earned the win in goal for Thomas, making four saves. Corey O'Toole took the loss, making five stops for SUNY Delhi.
Prior to the game, Thomas College seniors Nick Chandler (Wells, Maine), Josh Irving (Portland, Maine), Benjamin Vigue (Yarmouth, Maine), Walker, Parsons, Woodlin Placide (Les Cayes, Haiti), Josh Morrissey (Scarborough, Maine) and Jack Gallagher (Camden, Maine) were recognized for playing in one of their final regular season home games at Smith Field.
The Terriers will travel to Husson on Wednesday, October 23 for a 6:00 PM NAC game.
