WATERVILLE, Maine – The Thomas College men's soccer team fell to Bates 3-0 in a non-conference contest on Sunday afternoon at Smith Field.
Bates opened the scoring in the 23rd minute when a ball rattling around the front of the net found the foot of Alec Szwarcewicz, who tapped it to Austin Sansone for the spinning finish from point blank to put the Bobcats up 1-0. The visitors would double their lead in the 39th minute when Eric Opoku dribbled the ball from the outside toward the net and passed it to Beaufils Kimpolo-Pene for the quick shot past the Thomas keeper for the 2-0 halftime lead.
Sansone added his second in the 73rd minute, striking a left-footed rocket of a shot from just inside the top of the box and burying it in the top right corner to give Bates the 3-0 victory.
David Goodstein earned the shutout victory for Bates, making four stops. Ryan Manning came on for the final three minutes of the game and did not face a shot. Jonathan LeClair (Belont, N.H.) took the loss, allowing one goal on four shots in the first 35 minutes.
