WATERVILLE, Maine – Zenawi Bowen (St. George's, Bermuda) scored the game-winning goal in the 105th minute to give the Thomas College men's soccer team a 2-1 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) win over SUNY Canton on Saturday afternoon on Smith Field.
Canton got on the board first, with Kyle Smith scoring in the 27th minute to give the Kangaroos a 1-0 lead going into the half.
The SUNY Canton lead would stand until the 86th minute, when Michael Sanzari (Falmouth, Maine) forced overtime with his fifth goal of the season.
Bowen's goal came after a scoreless overtime, putting in the game-winner with just over five minutes left in 2OT to give Thomas the 2-1 victory.
Both goaltenders turned in stellar performances, with Jonathan Dutka (Durham, N.H.) making seven saves in the win. SUNY Canton's Mouhammed Thiam took the loss, making nine saves on 11 shots.
Prior to the game, Dutka, Benjamin Vigue (Yarmouth, Maine), Josh Emard (Lebanon, Maine), DJ Nicholas (Portland, Maine), Adam LaBrie (Yarmouth, Maine) and Baramee Janla (Winter Harbor, Maine) were honored for playing in their final regular season home game on Smith Field.
The Terriers will play in their regular season finale in a NAC game at Maine Maritime Academy on Tuesday, October 22 at 6:30 PM.
