WATERVILLE, Maine – The Thomas College men's lacrosse team began their season with a 14-6 loss to Regis College on Wednesday afternoon on Bernatchez Field.
The Pride struck first in the opening frame, scoring two goals in less than a minute at the 11:24 and 10:36 marks to go up 2-0 after one.
Thomas answered back with Jack Gallagher (Camden, Maine) getting the first goal of the season for Thomas off a feed from Matt Craig (Benton, Maine). Regis answered with two goals to pull ahead 4-1 with 11:31 to go in the second. The Terriers scored twice to cut the lead back to one. Max Irons (Limerick, Maine) and Mathew Crisco (North Haven, Conn.) each notched their first career goals to make it 4-3 with under seven to go. The teams each scored a goal in the final minutes, with Daniel MacWhinnie (Lanesborough, Mass.) getting one on the board for Thomas to make it 5-4 at halftime.
Regis pulled away in the third period, scoring six unanswered goals to go up 11-4 after three periods. Thomas scored twice in the fourth, with Gallagher and Irons each scoring, while the Pride scored three times to make it a 14-6 final.
Patrick Buxton (Portland, Maine) made 13 saves on 27 shots while taking the loss in goal.
The Terriers will return to action on Sunday, March 8 at 1:00 PM when they host Dean College.
