WATERVILLE, Maine – The Thomas College men's lacrosse team fell just short in a comeback to Maine Maritime Academy, 5-3, on Monday night in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action at Smith Field.
The Terriers finish the season at 2-8 (2-4 NAC) overall, earning a spot in the NAC Tournament while the Mariners end at 4-7 (4-3 NAC).
Before the contest, seniors Colby Blondin (Colchester, Vt.), Conner Blair (North Hartland, Vt.), Connor Lamberton (Shohola, Pa.), Michael Small (Brentwood, N.H.), Jacob Kendall (Lewiston, Maine), Kyle Fletcher (Monmouth, Maine), Leo Myers (Bath, Maine), and Quentin Chard (Topsham, Maine) were honored for their dedication to the men's lacrosse program.
The Mariners scored five unanswered markers in the first half to take a 5-0 lead behind a pair of goals from Orion Sargent and Michael Martell.
The Terriers chipped away at the deficit in the third quarter on tallies by Kendall and Blondin. Kendall added another just before the end of the frame to make it a 5-3 game. In the fourth, Mariners held off the Terriers charge to end the game at 5-3.
Martell and Sargent led Maine Maritime with two goals each while Alex Grant-Roy netted a goal and two assists. Justin Kretzmer caused a team-high six turnovers and scooped up six ground balls.
Kendall scored two goals on nine shots for Thomas while Blondin recorded one marker on a game-high 12 shots. Blair and freshman Duncan McDougal (Hartland, Maine) combined for seven caused turnovers and six ground balls.
Isaiah Weston made 11 saves for the Mariners in the win while Lamberton made 11 stops for Thomas.
The Terriers will travel hit the road for a NAC Quarterfinal matchup on Saturday with a matchup to be determined.
