POULTNEY, Vt. – The Thomas College men's lacrosse team snapped a two-game skid with a 9-4 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) win over Green Mountain College on Saturday afternoon at Eagles Game Field.
Thomas (3-7, 2-5 NAC) opened up the scoring with 6:22 remaining in the first quarter as Colby Blondin (Colchester, Vt.) rifled home a shot on a solo effort that beat the Eagles' keep high and right. That would be the only goal of the opening stanza as the action play in the midfield dominated play.
Kade Strout (Richmond, Maine) extended the visitor's lead to 2-0 to start the second period as he converted off of a pass from Blondin. Green Mountain (1-9, 1-7 NAC) responded at the six-minute mark as David Gerken pumped in a pass from Deven Rogers to cut the deficit to 2-1.
The teams would trade goals in the third period as Blondin scored again for Thomas while Dominic Wright notched a goal for the Eagles to push the score to 5-2 entering the final quarter.
The Terriers doubled up the Eagles in the final stanza 4-2 to earn the 9-4 victory as Strout tallied a pair of goals in the period.
Thomas received a hat trick from Strout and two goals and two assists from Blondin. Blondin also contributed a game-high 16 groundballs and was 8-of-11 at the faceoff X. Kendall recorded a goal and an assist.
Green Mountain was led by a pair of goals by Wright. Rogers added six groundballs onto his assist while teammate Brandon Fain matched Rogers' groundball total while adding a goal late in the fourth quarter.
Connor Lamberton (Shohola, Pa.) earned eight saves in the victory for Thomas while Carl Diethelm stopped 15 shots in the effort for the Eagles.
Thomas heads to Saint Joseph's (ME) for its regular season finale on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
