NASHUA, NH- Thomas (0-1) was dropped on opening day by Rivier (4-1) in a non-conference men's lacrosse contest on Wednesday. The Terriers have yet to come away victorious in their first game of the season in the nine year history of the program.
Rivier kicked of the scoring affair with two tally's early. Thomas was able to get on the board at the 10:29 mark with an unassisted score by Gunnar Shelton (Eugene, Ore.). The halftime would see the home side have a comfortable lead of 8-3.
The Raiders would continue the scoring barrage in the closing stanza, while Thomas found the back of the net only once more by Bryan Ferris (Whitman, Mass.).
Senior Jesse Morkeski (Damariscotta, Maine) made 17 saves, while his counterpart Clark Plummer had 10 stops.
Overall, the victors outshot Thomas 48-23, while holding a 55-28 advantage on ground balls. The Terriers were able to have success on clears, going 16-21, but could not take benefit from it in the offensive end.
Thomas will return home in their home opener on Sunday, March 17 as they take on conference rival Maine-Farmington at 1pm in a non-conference contest. Last season the Terriers defeated UMF 10-9 in OT, while holding a 4-0 career record against the Beavers.
