WATERVILLE, Maine – The Thomas College men's basketball team defeated UMaine-Presque Isle 82-76 in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) game on Saturday evening at Larry Mahaney Gym.
Zach Mackinnon (Kennebunk, Maine) led the way for Thomas, scoring 21 points, all on three-pointers, while chipping in three rebounds. The remainder of the Terriers all registered double-digit scoring, including Lovegeurson Fleurine (Fort Pierce, Fla.) who had a double-double of 18 points and 12 rebounds. Jacob Godfrey (Machias, Maine) was just short of his own double-double, scoring 14 points with nine boards.
The lead went back-and-forth in the early going, with Thomas holding a 26-25 edge with 7:40 left in the first. The Terriers closed out the period on a 17-5 run to take a 43-30 lead going into halftime.
The Owls slowly chipped away at the Thomas lead over the first 12 minutes of the second, eventually whittling it down to a 62-61 edge with 8:34 to go. The Terriers refused to relinquish the lead, however, and held UMPI off to take the 82-76 win.
Prior to the game, Mackinnon was recognized during a senior day ceremony to celebrate his contributions to the program. He was also presented a commemorative basketball celebrating his 1,000th career point, which he scored on December 6 in a win at SUNY Canton.
Thomas will host their final home contest of the regular season on Friday, February 14 at 7:30 PM.
