WATERVILLE, Maine – The Thomas College men's basketball team defeated Northern Vermont University-Lyndon 76-70 in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) contest on Friday evening in Larry Mahaney Gymnasium.
Both top scorers for the Terriers came off the bench. Jordan Goodson (Orlando, Fla.) posted 20 points and grabbed seven rebounds and four assists and Jacob Godfrey (Machias, Maine) strung together 14 points, nine rebounds and two blocks. Thomas' leading rebounder was Tyler Nixon (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) with 13 to go along with eight points and two steals.
The Terriers dominated around the basket, outrebounding Lyndon 50-31 and scoring 40 points in the paint to the Hornets' 14.
Thomas established an early advantage, building up to a 32-13 lead through the first 14 minutes of the first half. The Hornets closed the gap through the remainder of the period, closing the final six on a 18-10 run to make it 42-31 at the break.
The Terriers kept control through the first half of the second period building their lead to 67-51 with 8:52 to go. Lyndon battled back to pull the score within two going on a 19-3 to make it 72-70 with just over a minute to go. Thomas held them off down the stretch to take the 76-70 victory.
The Terriers continue their schedule with another NAC game on Saturday, January 18 at 5:00 PM against Northern Vermont University-Johnson in Larry Mahaney Gym.
