JOHNSON, Vt. – The Thomas College men's basketball team defeated Northern Vermont University-Johnson 80-72 in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) game on Friday evening.
The teams stayed close through the opening part of the first half, with Thomas holding a 13-10 lead with 11:00 left in the frame. The Terriers took control from that point, going on a 14-2 run over the next four minutes to take a 27-12 advantage. The Badgers got back in it with a run of their own, outscoring Thomas 22-11 to close out the half with the Terriers holding on to a 38-34 lead at the break.
Thomas and Johnson went back-and-forth through much of the second half, with the Terriers unable to shake the Badgers. Thomas was finally able to pull away, going ahead 74-60 with under three to go and coming away with the 80-72 win.
Justin Butler (Orlando, Fla.) scored a career-high 24 points on 10-of-11 shooting with four assists and three rebounds. Zach Mackinnon (Kennebunk, Maine) added 21 points with 13 points for his second-straight double-double.
Thomas will visit Northern Vermont University-Lyndon on Saturday, January 12 at 1:00 PM for another NAC game.
