WATERVILLE, Maine – The Thomas College men's basketball team fell 75-73 to Bates in a non-conference game on Tuesday evening.
After an even beginning early in the game, the Terriers separated themselves and took an 18-8 lead at the 11:31 mark of the first. Thomas held the advantage late into the half, with a 33-22 lead with 4:30 to go. Bates went on a 10-2 run over the next three minutes to pull the score to 35-32, but Thomas separated themselves, going into the break with two unanswered baskets to make it 40-32 at the intermission.
Bates chipped away over the first seven minutes of the second and eventually took the lead at 42-41. After multiple lead changes over the next three minutes and with Thomas ahead 49-47, Bates went on a 12-0 run to go up 59-49 with seven and a half minutes to go. Thomas slowly chipped away over the remainder of the half, eventually pulling even on a pair of free throws with 23 seconds remaining. Bates answered back with the game-winner with three second left to take the 75-73 win.
Evan Arsenault (Berlin, N.H.) matched his career-high with 18 points and added four rebounds and two assists. Zach Mackinnon (Kennebunk, Maine) notched 15 points and 11 rebounds for his first career double-double.
Thomas will visit Northern Vermont University-Johnson on Friday, January 11 for a North Atlantic Conference game at 5:30 PM.
