WATERVILLE, Maine – The Thomas College men's basketball team defeated Colby-Sawyer College 87-78 in a non-conference game on Saturday afternoon at Larry Mahaney Gym.
The teams were tightly matched in an opening half that featured 14 lead changes and back-and-forth action. Colby-Sawyer took the final lead of the half in the final minute on consecutive baskets by Dana Bean that made it 33-30 in favor of the Chargers, but Jordan Goodson (Orlando, Fla.) closed the gap to 33-32 in the final second to send Thomas into the break down just one.
The teams continued to trade the lead early in the second, before an Evan Arsenault (Berlin, N.H.) three gave Thomas a 39-38 lead that they would not surrender at the 12:41 mark. The Chargers hung around over the following minutes, but the Terriers would take control, eventually building their lead to as much as 14 late in the game en route to the 87-78 win.
Arsenault led the way for Thomas, scoring 17 points on 5-8 shooting from three-point range. Zach Mackinnon (Kennebunk, Maine) and Lovegeurson Fleurine (Fort Pierce, Fla.) each tacked on 16, while Demetris Webster (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) chipped in 15 and five assists.
Thomas will visit Bates for a non-conference game on Tuesday, January 8 at 7:30 PM.
