Waterville, Maine—The Thomas College Terriers picked up a North Atlantic Conference win over the Mariners of Maine Maritime, 98-59 in front of the home crowd Tuesday evening at Larry Mahaney Gymnasium. Sophomore guard Franklin Salvador led the Terriers with a game high 26 points and pulled down five rebounds. Andy Ball led MMA with a double-double posting 19 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.
With the win the Terriers improve to 13-10 (10-7 NAC), while the Mariners fall to 2-20 (1-15 NAC) on the season.
The first half saw MMA outshoot the Terriers 44.8% to 31.6%, but the Terriers bench would pick up the slack outscoring the Mariners bench 18-4. Freshman forward Taurean Easter led the Terriers bench in the first half scoring five points and picking up a key basket off a steal taking the ball coast to coast and putting the Terriers up 10 with 4:37 left to go in the first. MMA made a run before the half coming within four before the break at 36-32.
Thomas controlled the game in the second half shooting over 50% from the field and out rebounding MMA 54-27. The Terriers bench played a key role once again outscoring MMA's bench 21-7. The Terriers had three players in double figures including Salvador, senior forward Rob Nutter added 13 points and classmate guard Antonio Juco pitched in with 10 of his own in.
The Terriers final game of the season is on the road against the University of Maine Farmington at 3:00 p.m. Saturday the 18th. MMA's next contest is home Friday against Lyndon College at 7:30 p.m.
