Waterville, Maine - The Thomas College men's basketball team defeated the Eagles of Green Mountain 87-76 in their first North Atlantic Conference match up of the season. The Terriers were led by junior Jarrad DeVaughn who came off the bench to score a team high 19 points and added 6 rebounds. Martin Cleveland contributed 17 points and a team high 10 rebounds for the Terriers. Carnelius Green paced the Eagles with a game high 28 points.
With the win the Terriers improve to 3-2 (1-0 NAC) while the visiting Eagles fall to 1-4 (0-1 NAC).
Thomas got off to an early lead by putting defensive pressure on the Eagles causing 18 turnovers in the first half and offensively shooting 47 % from the field. With 11:05 in the first half, Taurean Easter finished a lay-up to get the Terriers rolling to their first lead of the game (19-18). In the final 5:05 of the first half, Cleveland scored nine points to extend the Terriers lead.
The Terriers held a 43-32 lead at halftime.
Thomas continued to extend the lead right out of the gates in the second half with pressure defense and a couple of three point shots by DeVaughn. Cleveland controlled the paint for the Terriers scoring 8 points in the second half.
The Terriers will host the Spartans of Castleton State on Saturday December 3rd at 1 p.m. in Larry Mahaney Gymnasium. Green Mountain will travel west to take on the Beavers of the University of Maine at Farmington.
