BANGOR, Maine – The Thomas College field hockey team took their second overtime victory over Husson this season, winning a New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) contest 1-0 in double overtime on Tuesday evening.
The Terriers had the share of scoring opportunities in regulation, outshooting the Eagles 10-2 in the first 60 minutes. Thomas had their best opportunity in the 36th minute when a Haley Thebarge (Smithfield, Maine) penalty stroke was saved by the Husson keeper.
After a scoreless first overtime Thomas earned the game-winner two minutes into the second extra frame when Britney Gregoire (Kennebunk, Maine) dangled through two Husson defenders and cleared herself for an open shot right in front that she buried for the 1-0 win.
Leah Kruse (Norridgewock, Maine) earned the four-save shutout in goal for Thomas. Kimmie Goddard took the loss for Husson, making 10 saves.
Thomas will await final seeding to determine their spot in the 2019 NECC Field Hockey Tournament.
