LEICESTER, Mass. – The Thomas College field hockey team opened their New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) schedule with a 2-1 win at Becker on Saturday afternoon.
Thomas got on the board first eight minutes in, with Danita Storey (Cumberland, Maine) receiving a corner entry from Allie Gregoire (Kennebunk, Maine) and firing it through the Becker defense to the back of the cage for the 1-0 win.
The Terriers doubled their lead in the final minutes of the second when Lindsey Gregoire (Kennebunk, Maine) forced a Becker turnover and found Britney Gregoire (Kennebunk, Maine) inside the circle. Britney settled the pass and separated from the defender to fire off a shot past the keeper, putting Thomas up 2-0.
The Hawks made it a one-goal game early in the fourth with a goal by Emily Iacovelli, but Thomas held off the tying goal and took the 2-1 victory.
Leah Kruse (Norridgewock, Maine) earned the win, making five saves. Baileigh Griese made eight saves in the loss for Becker.
The Terriers will head to Manhattanville for another NECC game on Sunday, October 6 at 12:00 PM.
