STANDISH, Maine – The Thomas College field hockey team fell to St. Joe's 3-1 in a non-conference game on Friday evening.
The Monks struck first early, with an Alexa Gutowski goal coming just 1:12 into the game to put St. Joe's up 1-0 early. Britney Gregoire (Kennebunk, Maine) evened things up three minutes later after Lindsey Gregoire (Kennebunk, Maine) sprung her on a breakaway to tie it 1-1.
The Monks took a 2-1 lead into halftime with an Emma Rutledge goal with 16 seconds left in the second quarter. Rutledge tacked on n insurance goal in the third to give the Monks a 3-1 win.
Alexandria Simpson made four saves in the win for SJC. MacKenzie Oberholzer (Hancock, Md.) made five saves on seven shots in the first half and took the loss. Leah Kruse (Norridgewock, Maine) came in for the second and made three saves on four shots.
Thomas will host UMaine-Farmington in a non-conference match on Wednesday, October 2 at 7:00 PM on Bernatchez Field.
