FH: Terriers Force Overtime, Fall to Colby 4-3

WATERVILLE, Maine – Kelci Faulkingham (Belfast, Maine) scored with less than 14 minutes remaining in regulation to force overtime, but Colby College slipped past the Thomas College field hockey team in extra time by a score of 4-3 on Tuesday night.

Thomas got on top first when Lindsey Gregoire (Kennebunk, Maine) pulled in a feed from Katie Taylor (Lebanon, Maine) and tucked in the goal to go up 1-0 at the 11:30 mark. The Mules got even with a goal by Georgia Cassidy at 20:30. The Terriers answered right back less than two minutes later when Gregoire fired the ball in front to Emily Pratt (Palmyra, Maine), who slipped it through the goaltender for her first career goal and the 2-1 lead. Colby knotted things up again just before the half with a goal by Cassidy with 10 seconds remaining to send the teams into the break tied 2-2.

The Mules took their first lead of the game 15 minutes into the second half when Myri Skodock found the back of the net for the 3-2 Colby advantage. The Terriers battled right back, however, with Faulkingham's goal in the 57th minute, assisted by Allie Gregoire (Kennebunk, Maine), to send the teams to overtime.

The teams traded opportunities in the 7-on-7 extra period, but it was Colby who converted with Skodock's second of the game to push the Mules past Thomas 4-3.

Leah Kruse (Norridgewock, Maine) made numerous key saves to keep the Terriers in it, ending the night with 11 saves on 15 shots on goal. Riley Whitmyer earned the win for Colby.

The Terriers will play host to Kean on Saturday, September 15 in an 11:00 AM game at Bernatchez Field.
