Terriers Fall to Beavers 1-0 in Conference Action

FARMINGTON, Maine – The Thomas College field hockey team dropped a 1-0 loss to UMaine Farmington at Prescott Field Saturday afternoon to open conference play.

The Beavers move to 3-4 on the year and 1-0 in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) while the Terriers fall to 1-6 overall and 0-1 in the NAC.

The Terriers started off with a lot of pressure with three shots in the opening 10 minutes. Kelci Faulkingham (Belfast, Maine) had a great opportunity from 12 yards out but just missed wide left.

Ten minutes later, the Terriers had another big chance off a penalty corner but the Beavers' Kayleigh Fontaine made a timely defensive save.

In the second half, the Beavers took control and spent most of the half in the offensive zone. The Beavers took four shots in the second half to the Terriers two.

Emma Martineau scored the lone goal at the 46-minute mark with the assist going to Emmah Spahr to give the Beavers the 1-0 edge with about 25 minutes to play.

With ten minutes to go, Faulkingham looked to even the score as her shot from eight yards was stopped by Alyssa Arsenault win the to preserve the 1-0 victory.

MacKenzie Oberholzer (Greencastle, Pa.) turned aside four shots in the effort.  Shots were tied at six a piece while Thomas held a 13-4 advantage in corners.

The Terriers will return home on Saturday, September 30 as they host Husson at 1:00 p.m.
