LEWISTON, Maine – The Thomas College field hockey team dropped a 2-0 decision on the road at Bates College on Wednesday night in non-conference action.
In the defeat, the Terriers (1-5) skid extends to five games after winning the opening game of the season while the Bobcats improve to 2-3.
Bates got on the board early as the pressured the Terriers early and often. Taylor Lough's crossing pass from the right baseline found Jessie Moriarity in front to give their team a 1-0 lead.
Thomas kept it a one-goal game until the 43rd minute, when Victoria McGee found Lough with an entry pass from the top of the circle, and Lough's inverted-stick shot bounced 10 feet before tucking inside the right goalpost for a two-goal lead.
Freshman MacKenzie Oberholzer (Greencastle, Pa.) shouldered the loss in goal for Thomas, turning aside 11 shots while Adelae Durand and Alyssa Souza combined for the shutout victory in goal for the Bobcats.
Bates outshot Thomas by a 32-1 margin and held a 10-0 advantage in corners. Junior Tiffany Weeks (Kennebunk, Maine) held the Terriers only shot in the game.
The Terriers will begin North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play on Saturday, September 23 as they travel to the University of Maine at Farmington for a 1:00 p.m. matchup.
