DUDLEY, MA – The Thomas College field hockey team had five different goal scorers in a 5-1 win over Nichols in a non-conference matchup on Saturday afternoon.
The win improves the Terriers to 2-0 in the early season while the loss drops the Bison down to 1-1. Senior Gabby Martell (Gorham, ME / Gorham) who had a goal and two assists and freshman Miranda Gagne (Winslow, ME / Winslow) who had a goal and an assist led the way for Thomas.
The Terriers got on the scoreboard early in the eight minute of the first half when junior Abigail Dunn (Gardiner, ME / Gardiner) beat the Bison goalkeeper for an early 1-0 lead. In the 20th minute, sophomore Lindsay Morong (Liberty, ME / Mt. View) scored her first collegiate goal on a rebound shot from Martell. The Bison looked to rally back with a goal from Erin Kelley who cut the Terrier lead to 2-1 at the half.
In the second half Thomas began to pull away early in the 39th minute when Martell scored at the left side on a pass from Gagne for a 3-1 advantage. Just six minutes later the Terriers added another goal from sophomore Katie Taylor (Lebanon, Maine / Noble) who slammed in her first goal of the season on an assist from Martell. At the 59th minute, Gagne scored her first collegiate goal as a Terrier, finishing the scoring at 5-1.
Senior Abbie Charrier (Waldo, ME / Mt. View) earned the victory in goal for the Terriers with four saves while Brooke Misbach was given the loss for the Bison with 11 saves. Thomas held a 21-8 advantage in shots throughout the contest.
Thomas will have a short turnaround with a game Sunday, September 4, at 1:00 p.m. as they play at Bridgewater State.
