Thomas Field Hockey Earns NFHCA Team, Individual Academic Awards

WATERVILLE, Maine --- The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) has released its academic honors for the 2015 season and the Thomas College program was well represented.

Program Receives National Academic Team Award
The team received the 2015 ZAG Field Hockey / NFHCA Division III National Academic Team Award, which recognizes those institutions that achieved a minimum team grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher during the first semester of the 2015-16 academic year. It was one of four North Atlantic Conference programs among the 124 NCAA Division III institutions that received the national award. Castleton, UMF and Husson were the others.

11 Student-Athletes Named to National Academic Squad
Eleven Thomas student-athletes were named to the 2015 ZAG Field Hockey / NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad. The National Academic Squad recognizes those student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher through the first semester of the 2015-16 academic year.

Forty-one student-athletes from five North Atlantic Conference programs made the cut, including the following Thomas players: seniors Taylor Bergeron (Lyman, Maine / Massabesic), Crystal Cunningham (Dexter, Maine / Dexter), Brooklyn Curry (Belfast, Maine / Belfast), Emily Leighton (Oakland, Maine / Messalonskee) and Erin Nelligan (Walpole, Mass. / Walpole), sophomores Abigail Dunn (Gardiner, Maine / Gardiner), Caitlyn Poulin (Knox, Maine / Mount View) and Emily Wilcox (Lowell, Mass. / Lowell) and freshmen Lindsay Morong (Liberty, Maine / Mount View), Katie Taylor (Lebanon, Maine / Noble) and Tiffany Weeks (Kennebunk, Maine / Kennebunk)

Bergeron, Curry and Nelligan were four-year recipients of the national award.

Curry, Taylor Named Scholars of Distinction
In addition, Curry and Taylor were two of 12 North Atlantic Conference student-athletes named 2015 ZAG Field Hockey / NFHCA Collegiate Scholars of Distinction. The Scholars of Distinction award recognizes those student-athletes that achieved a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.90 or higher during the first semester of the 2015-16 academic year. 

Only 189 Division III student-athletes received the award.
