LEWISTON, ME – Thomas was unable to contain the Bates offense, falling 8-2 in a non-conference field hockey contest Thursday evening. With the loss the Terriers fall to 1-2, while the Bobcats start of their 2013 season 1-0.
The home side had control for a majority of the first, holding Thomas to just one shot, while taking 10 of their own that resulted in three goals. Caroline Falcone put Bates on the board at 8:14 with a tally off of a rebound, then she picked up another marker at 31:38 on a feed from Sydney Cowles.
The Bobcats added three more in the beginning stages of the closing stanza – two from Falcone, then Thomas was able to get on the board when Erica Blake got her first collegiate goal on a setup from a penalty corner. The Terriers found the back of the net just three minutes later when Brittany Premo tipped in a Miranda Tinsman shot to cut the Bates lead.
Two more Bobcats goals would nix any last minute hopes of a comeback for the Terriers.
Jasmine Bishop suffered the loss in net, yielding three goals against on seven shots, while making four saves.
Thomas take on Johnson & Whales on Friday, September 13 at 4pm.
