Terriers Suffer OT Defeat to BSU, 2-1

BRIDGEWATER, MA – Thomas field hockey could not capitalize on a breakaway opportunity in overtime, falling to Bridgewater state, 2-1 in a non-conference matchup Sunday afternoon. The Terriers even their record on the season at 1-1.

Demi Miskiv netted the game-winner with 3:16 remaining in overtime for the hosts as she picked up a loose ball of the stick of teammate Jaclyn Holahan and rifled a shot inside the left post from ten yards out.

Miskiv had staked the Bears to a 1-0 lead late in the first half as she scored off a penalty shot.

Lauren Hachey knotted the score at 1-1 for the Terriers less than five minutes into the second half with her second goal in as many days.  Hachey took a cross from sophomore forward Michelle Green just inside the half-circle and rifled a shot that beat the BSU netminder to the left side of the goal.

Sofia Sourgiadakis turned aside nine shots for Thomas despite suffering the loss. Her counterpart Kacie Sturgeon made six saves to record the win.  Sturgeon's biggest stop of the afternoon came midway through the overtime period as she used her right blocker to stop the breakaway bid of Thomas.

Bridgewater held an 18-9 shot advantage for the game as well as a slight 14-12 edge in penalty corners.

The Terriers travel to Bates College on Thursday evening to take on the Bobcats at 7pm.
